Brief overarching thoughts -
I am passionate about the bespoke nature of cinematography, within its technical and aesthetic terms. The rhythm of the edit drives the heartbeat of how a story is told. Context and the design in the shot sets the tone. Giving the actor/person appropriate space to render an honest and sincere performance is essential to galvanising the audience's experience. How we light and frame an image, how we move or hold the camera; this can be touching, or delightful, intriguing, humorous, horrific... and so on. Cinematography that is integral to the narrative and that facilitates the directorial vision is exciting. I’m not locked into a particular style. Each piece of work should creatively stand-alone and be informed by a combination of concept, script and desired outcome. Filmmaking is a collaborative medium. When it's considered, it's worth infusing the process with listening and gentleness so that creatively there is more depth. Importantly it can often be heaps of fun. Click here to view my resume.
